The Music Ministry All the music sung and played here is a gift, O God, from
You. Copyright © 2000 Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Music has a central role in the history of the United Methodist Church and in the life of Ridgewood United Methodist Church. Ridgewood is blessed with a congregation lead by dedicated adult choir, men’s ensemble, women’s ensemble, children’s choirs and instrumentalists who love to glorify God through music. The Chancel Choir The Chancel Choir participates in every Sunday service, alternating between services, except for Communion Sunday and special services when it sings both services. The Chancel Choir also sings at the Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday services. When present, the Choir provides an important leadership for congregational singing. The Chancel Choir sings music of many different styles, including classical, traditional, gospel, multi-cultural, and contemporary. Thursday rehearsals, 7:30 - 9:00 pm in the Music Room, are open to high school through adult singers. Singing Spirits - Kindergarten through 3rd

SonRisers - 4th through 6th Grades Chime Choir Puppets and Beyond At Ridgewood United Methodist Church the LOGOS Children’s choirs provide a means to praise God and worship Him through music. These ensembles offer exciting music/worship opportunities for the youth for fellowship and service to all members of the church. Rehearsals for these choirs are scheduled during the LOGOS Youth Club Wednesday evening activities. These groups are supervised by lay leaders and enhance the worship services throughout the year. Ridgewood United Methodist Church Music Series consists of two divisions: For more detailed information on the Music Series and to see the schedule of events, please click here. Instrumental Ensembles Talented musicians enhance our worship by offering their skills in praise of God. Rehearsals begin several weeks before scheduled service and are held in the Music Room. The Schantz Organ The 3 manual and pedal organ was built in 1954 by the Schantz Organ Company, Orville, Ohio. The tonal design of the organ was planned by Dr. Louis L. Balogh, organ consultant for RUMC in collaboration with the Schantz Organ Company. The Formal Organ Dedication and Sacred Concert took place in the afternoon on Sunday, November 18, 1956 under leadership of Mrs. Jonathan R. Adler, Director of Music. Located behind the pulpit, the stop control of the organ is by 35 drawknobs, 18 pistons, and 30 couplers. The organ contains 1419 pipes comprising 22 ranks, a set of tubular chimes, a five-bell cymbelstern, and a Schulmerich Digital Carillon system. The primary purpose of the organ is to support, lead and inspire the RUMC
congregation and choir in prayer and praise through song in addition to playing
worthwhile organ literature. The organ handled majestically can seem almost
to speak with the voice of the Holy Spirit or can serve as the voice of a
contrite congregation speaking with humility.
