Celebration of Earth Day & Native American Ministries

Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 10:00 am
Special Guest Speaker: Kimberlee Medicine Horn Jackson

Kimberlee Medicine Horn JacksonWe are excited to welcome Kimberlee Medicine Horn Jackson to our worship service on Sunday, April 17, 2016 as she leads us in her message "The Score Card: Building Relationships with Native Americans through Love." Her message will focus on integrating Christian faith with tribal traditions and the intersections of Native wisdom with the Christian Gospel.

Kimberlee Medicine Horn Jackson is an enrolled member of the Yankton Dakota (Sioux) Tribe in South Dakota. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus on both poetry and creative non-fiction from Ashland University and a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies with George Fox University/Seminary in partnership with the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological studies with a focus on Native Americans. She questions the blurred line between Native traditional ways and where it intersects with Christianity. She is a Native American Adoptee and writes about the experience of being taken from her original family and raised with a non-Native Christian family. Kimberlee highlights this lesser known act of Indian removal with an unflinching eye. She is an adjunct English instructor with Kent State Univeristy and uses the classroom to help teach about the Reservation Boarding School era, another lesser known period of Indian removal in the American history books.
